Due to seasonal conditions the unrestricted burning period for the Shire of Lake Grace will begin on 17 April 2025. From 17 April permits to burn will no longer be required. Large burns are to be registered with DFES by calling (08) 9395 9210

The Shire of Lake Grace is pleased to announce that the Shire’s Community Funding Program for 2025-2026 is now open. The program provides financial assistance of up to $5000 to not-for-profit organisations within the Shire to support community driven initiatives that encourage community engagement and development, build resilience and wellbeing, and foster pride and leadership.

The recent Medicare bulk billing announcement by the Federal Government has been widely promoted as ensuring “9 out of 10 GP visits will be free.” However, this promise is misleading for rural communities, where access to a GP remains the fundamental issue. While the incentives may slightly benefit urban practices already bulk billing, they fail to address the chronic shortage of doctors in RM 6 and RM 7 regions, where residents often travel over in excess of 100 kilometers just to see a GP. Without doctors in place, increased bulk billing incentives are meaningless.
